Though her public considers Lillian gifted in many different media, she is forever eager to grow as an artist,
and so in 2006, she took
a two-week residency from Master Printmaker, Frank Jenzen at
Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts in Pendleton, Oregon.
The mission of this non-profit organization is to provide educational, social and economic opportunities
for Native Americans through artistic development.
The Institute houses a large printmaking studio, computer graphics lab and photography darkroom as
well as an extensive library, private studio space and administrative offices.
During her residency, Lillian learned many new
techniques and skills in the various stages of creating such forms as lithotypes and monotypes. Some of
the prints created there are shown below, along with where they are available. As in the many other media
in Lillian's repertoire, these prints draw on the prehistoric
petroglyphs and rock paintings found on the rocks of the Columbia River Gorge that she and
others have worked so hard to preserve. There are hundreds of them--many clear in their meaning, many mysterious--and
she finds them an endless source of inspiration for her art.
Below is a sampling of the prints Lillian completed in that two-week intensive, printed by Crow Shadow Press with the help of Frank Janzen.
Many are embossed by pressing into them the stencils of designs
she cut from plastic, shown in the photograph to the left. The prints on this page exist in editions of
only 20 and are available at Crow's Shadow. Many of them are also available at
The Bonnie Kahn Gallery,
Portland, OR, and
Northwest by Northwest, Cannon Beach, OR.

Crow Takes Leave of the Family
Tapestry, Limited Edition of 30
The image of Crow Takes Leave of the Family, based on ancient Columbia river Gorge cave pictographs and petroglyphs,
is one that Lillian has returned to in many different media, because it evokes a poignant parting many peoples,
ancient and modern have shared.
Above you see it in a drypoint print, below in a tapestry, but she has also recreated it in 18K gold bracelets
and pendants that you can see on her jewelry page.
Available at
The Bonnie Kahn Gallery Portland, OR, and the
Sunbird Gallery, Bend, OR.
